Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

Regarding the Hill Cumorah question asked, is there really no definitive statement given or are there multiple but contradictory definitive statements given? Haven't prophets positively identified the Hill Cumorah of Joseph as the Hill Cumorah of Moroni?

-not satisfied (yet)

A: Dear not satisfied (yet)-

Not that I know of. I found a statement given by Joseph F. Smith made while he was an apostle that shows he believes that there is only one Cumorah, but he also includes the words "in my opinion" beforehand. He also says that Joseph Smith said that Cumorah is the ancient Cumorah, but I haven't found that quote. There is also a quote from Brigham Young's Journal of Discourses in which he recounts Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery seeing a chamber within the hill containing many of the Nephite records. (Those that believe in the "two Cumorahs" theory believe the vision may have been of another location, or that the records were moved during the interim.) I have not seen any recent statement about the subject, though, which implies that it is not "of great doctrinal import."
