Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

My roommate was claiming the other day that 90% of African-American children in the U.S. are born out of wedlock. Can you refute this claim? It seems a little high.

A: Dear Roger,

I found this website with some stats about Illinois and Chicago. Included near the bottom are some national observations such as this:

Compared to a national average of 33%, 69% of African-American births are to unmarried mothers.
