Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

Is there any way to "unsqueak" a squeaky mattress? If so, what would that be?

- Just wondering....

A: Dear Just wondering,

It's very possible that it's not the mattress that squeaking. In a mattress, the springs are each covered with a piece of cloth, so it's more likely to be the frame, unless your mattress has been excessively jumped on, or is older than Pong.

If your frame is metal, apply some commercial lubricant at the joints and rivets. If it's wood, you can either put some cloth at the joints, or rub some paraffin wax (like a candle) where it's squeaky.

If it really does turn out to be the mattress, you need a new mattress. Otherwise you'd have to cut it open, find the offending springs, put more cloth cover on them, and sew it back up again. Not fun. Get a new mattress.

I hope it's your frame.
