Dear 100 Hour Board,

What are the steps/qualifications to getting accepted into the Mormon Tabernacle Choir?

- singer

A: Dear singer,

For a brief explanation of how you can become a member of the choir, take a look at the Mormon Tabernacle Choir's Frequently Asked Questions on their website.

Basically, you have to be an active member of the Church, recommended by your bishop, live within 100 miles of Temple Square, and be between ages 25 and 55. The application process takes about six months and begins the first week of both January and July. The process consists of three phases. First, you must submit an unaccompanied recording of a song selected by the Music Director (Craig Jessop). Second, participate in a musical skills test. If you test high enough, an audition will be scheduled for you to perform a hymn of your choice, sight-read a piece of music, and have your vocal range tested.

There's a more detailed article about becoming a choir member here.

Good luck!
