Miracles are a retelling in small letters of the very same story which is written across the whole world in letters too large for some of us to see. -C. S. Lewis

Dear 100 Hour Board,
Is it true that Utah voters were the deciding factor in repealing Prohibition? Well, if not the deciding factor, maybe influential? Significant?

A: Dear History Student,

Yes, it is very true that the voters in Utah played an integral part in the ratification of the 21st amendment. Several states had refused to repeal prohibition but, as it turned out, Utah was the final state needed to ratify the amendment that ended the ban on alcohol. I also read a second-hand account that the prophet at the time said he was ashamed of the members of the church and was embarrassed to be the leader of the people who allowed the end to prohibition. To be fair I could not verify that quote independently. But Utah played a huge role in the end of prohibition.
