Dear 100 Hour Board,
What was the occupation of J. Alfred Prufrock in T.S. Eliot's poem of the same name?
- Hyacinth Girl

A: Dear Hyacinth Girl,
The poem never mentions Prufrock's occupation, except to say that he is no prophet. He does talk about being "an attendant lord" and sometimes "a Fool," so perhaps he is a white-collar worker without much sign of upward mobility.
