Question #30973 posted on 09/25/2001 midnight

Dear 100 Hour Board,

I understand that anyone who graduates from BYU with a GPA in the top 10% of his graduating class is distinguished "cum laude," 5% "magna cum laude," and 1% "summa cum laude." I was wondering what the cut off points were last December (2000) and last April (2001). i.e. what was the lowest GPA that got summa, magna, and cum laude.

A: Dear Magna,

To graduate cum laude the graduation requirements last December were to have a GPA of 3.80 and in April the GPA was 3.85. To graduate magna cum lade you were required to have a GPA of 3.88 in December and 3.91 in April. Finally, to graduate summa cum lade, last December you needed a GPA of 3.96 and in April a GPA of 3.97.
