Dear 100 Hour Board,
Where is the nearest lake or pond where I can see a common coot (Fulica atra)? I hate going all these ponds and only seeing mallards (Anas platyrhynchos) begging for bread and chee-tos.

A: Dear rock ptarmigan,
According to the Utah County Birders, American Coots (Fulica americana) may be seen on Utah Lake and the lower Provo River. However, Fulica atra is listed as the Eurasian Coot, and watching it would necessitate a trip to Europe, Asia, or New Zealand.
