Dear 100 Hour Board,
"Shoegaze" is kind of vague, but The Pixies are perhaps the world's greatest band ever and influenced a multitude of good bands that formed or played after 1987, including many that came to be known as "shoegazers". You won't fall asleep listening to their records, and nary will an album let you down. I suppose a good starter might be "Doolittle" or their first mini album "Come on Pilgrim," but like I say, they are all superb and better than anything that has come out in the last ten years.
For something more shoegazorific, I suppose you could check out My Bloody Valentine, generally recognized as the godfathers of gaze. The album to get in that case would be "Loveless." Personally, I find stuff like that sort of boring.
If you're just looking for good britpop then start with the Smiths and work your way from there.
