Dear 100 Hour Board,

Someone told me that various woods can produce somke that has nicotine in it. They also said that smoked salmon is chock full of nicotine because of this. Is there any truth to this? Can you enlighten me?

- As much as I like smoked salmon I don't think I'm addicted

A: Dear Not addicted to smoked fish,

Fortunately, no. The only things that contain nicotine are the nightshade family of plants, primarily tobacco (or course), with smaller amounts found in tomato, potato, eggplant, green pepper, and coca plants. (I'm pretty sure they're talking about the leaves here, since I've never heard of tomatoes being a problem with the Word of Wisdom.)

So, you can continue to enjoy your smoked salmon, as long as they're not using anything funny to smoke it!
