Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

What is a beryl? What does it look like? What is the scriptural significance of Moses' face shining like a beryl?

- I can "beryl-ly" wait for your response!

A: Dear I can ~

The Hebrew word commonly translated as beryl is תַּרְשִׁישׁ. According to The Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew and English Lexicon, תַּרְשִׁישׁ (tarsheesh) is "a precious stone, perhaps yellow jasper, opr other gold-coloured stone." It is also in similitude of resplendent body in Daniel 10:6 and Song of Solomon 5:14.

You can find photos of yellow jasper here.

I'm not exactly sure where you're getting the reference of Moses' face shining like a beryl, though. However, I would suppose the significance is that Moses' face was shining brightly. Just as if it had said Moses' face was shining like gold.
