Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

My CD player has this cool little function where it can remember where I was on a CD when I turned the player off, so that when I turn it back on it picks up playing where I left off. Even more amazingly, I don't have to leave a CD in for this to happen. Even if I take my Semisonic out of the player, when I put it back in there's the second verse of El Matador, all queued up. How does the player do it?

A: Dear ozone,
After a quick trip to howstuffworks.com, I think I can answer your question. The tracking lens part of your CD player doesn't reset after you turn it off. So even if you take the CD out it remembers the place where it was at and starts there when you put the CD back in. Check out: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/cd6.htm
