Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

Does anyone know of any free music notation software that is reliable and works well? I am currently using Finale Notepad, but it's features are quite limited. Are there any free, good ones out there? Does BYU offer any good ones at discounted rates?

Thanks

A: Dear You're Welcome,

The short answer? No. There isn't any good free music software.

The longer one? I talked to a friend who has tried a lot of music software. He says that since music is ridiculously complex math, you're not likely to find anyone willing to do the work for free. He's tried a lot of free programs and eventually had to just break down and buy something. He recommends Full Finale or, for the character building experience, a pencil and paper.
