Dear 100 Hour Board,

A few years ago, in one of the vistors centers on Temple Square, there was a poster on display showing how Joseph Smith had a common ancestor with several U.S. presidents and a bunch of other historical figures. I've tried Googling this to no avail...can your magic searching powers find something about this? I would like to share it in a Sunday School class on family history, if I can verify that I'm remembering it correctly.

- thanks yet again

A: Dear you're welcome!

Joseph Smith and four presidents (Ulysses S. Grant, Franklin D. Roosevelt, George H. W. Bush, and George W. Bush) have a common ancestor: John Lothropp. Mr. Lothropp (also spelled Lathrop) has his own wikipedia page as well as a separate informational site.
