Q:

Dear Ambrosia,

You say that you have the three best chocolate chip cookie recipes in the world. Would you be willing to share them? I've not been able to find a recipe that I really like, and I've been trying.

A: Dear pippin,
I would like to humbly put forth my recipe for chocolate chip cookies. I have no idea about how good Ambrosia's cookies are, but I like mine a lot. And this is not to undermine Ambrosia's mastery of chocolate chip cookie making. Only to bring more yumminess to the world.

2 sticks of butter
3/4 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 bag of chocolate chips

If the butter has been in the fridge, let it soften to room temperature. I often stick them in the microwave on defrost for a bit. Make sure they don't start melting. Add both kinds of sugar and mix. Put in the eggs and vanilla and mix again. Add about 1 c. of flour and on the top put the salt and baking soda. Mix in the flour with the salt and baking soda so there's not a weird concentration in the mix. Then mix it all together. Add the remaining flour to taste. It depends on how light and fluffy you want them.
I like this recipe as a cookie dough recipe as well. It often will never make it to the oven.
Hope you enjoy all these wonderful recipes!

A: Dear Pippin etc.,

I, too, have a wonderful chocolate chip cookie recipe, although I don't know how it compares to the others'. But they are famous back at home and are known as "[FCSM's last name] cookies." You can just call them FCSM cookies. (I can just see it, 100 years from now. "Mommy, what's eff-see-ess-emm?" "I don't know, dear. Great-grandma copied this recipe off the internet off something called the 100 Hour Board.")

1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
2 c. shortening
4 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
4 1/4 c. flour
2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
2 c. chocolate chips
Cream sugars and shortening. Add eggs and vanilla and beat. Add flour, salt, and baking soda. Add chocolate chips. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
