Dear 100 Hour Board,
Does anyone ever give the carillon bells a tune up? Is that physically possible? They are sounding a little flat; I seem to hear discordant topnotes on the word "fear" (as in "no toil nor labor fear").

A: Dear Orpheus,
I have found no record of the carillion bells being tuned since they were placed. Bells are usually tuned once (upon installation). It's somewhat of a laborious process, involving shaving metal off the rim of the bell. The bells change tone with temperature changes, and as the tuning process is rather permanent and unidirectional, bells are usually not tuned seasonally.
