Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

My cumulative GPA after my first semester of my senior year of high school was 3.396. Should I round it to a 3.4 on my BYU application or is that academic dishonesty?

A:

Dear so close,

Does the application allow you to provide your GPA to the thousandths place? If it does, then I would probably include all of the significant figures possible. If it doesn't, I would follow standard rounding rules and not think much of it.

...but seriously, do you really think that that 0.004 will tip the scale? Don't worry about it.

Dear so close,

The admissions committee will see your entire transcript anyway so rounding to a 3.4 or leaving a 3.39 won't make much difference.  If I were you, I would put down 3.40 for no other reason than to show your proficiency at rounding.
