Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

Does BYU have an official stance on SOPA (the Stop Online Piracy Act)? Various professors and students in the Computer Science department have expressed deep disapproval of the act, and I've not heard anyone admit support of it. Should BYU have an official stance on SOPA? Would it make a difference?

A:

'Nymless,

The Church, and BYU, very rarely take political positions, and when they do, it is almost always on issues the Church considers to be of moral relevance.1 And no, I don't think BYU should take a position on SOPA or PIPA. And no, I don't think it would make a difference.

No Dice

1 Cue Prop 8 reference.
