Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

I'm a single female. My birthday is on Valentine's Day. What should I do to celebrate?

A:

Dear allmyfriendsaremarried,

If you have enough single friends or acquaintances, you could just throw a normal, non-Valentine's birthday party. They'll probably appreciate the opportunity to be social without feeling any of the pressures and expectations of Valentine's Day. After all, why should you let Valentine's Day steal your thunder?

If you don't have enough single friends for a birthday party on Valentine's Day, then I'd suggest celebrating your birthday on Friday night. I don't know about you, but I when I have a birthday party, it almost always ends up not being on my actual birthday anyways, just because weekends make better parties. Then on your actual birthday, you and your roommates or single friends/acquaintances could do something more low-key, like going to a restaurant (or ordering in if you want to avoid all the couples on dates), watching a movie you've wanted to see and never got around to, or doing other normal low-key birthdayish things.
