Whenever he thought about it, he felt terrible. And so, at last, he came to a fateful decision. He decided not to think about it. ~John-Roger and Peter McWilliams

Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

I was wondering about chastity. Is it still discouraged to masturbate after you are married?
-shy

A: Dear shy-

Yes. After marriage, sex should be with one's spouse, not alone. That is part of "complete fidelity." Touching one's spouse, though, is not wrong; it is usually an important part of sex. Masturbation is self-centered, while activity with one's spouse is (hopefully) meant to bring a married couple closer together. I trust that you can see the difference.

p.s. If you want to learn more about the spiritual aspect of sex, read _Between Husband and Wife_. If you will soon (within a couple months) be married, read _The Act of Marriage_ so you'll have some idea what you're supposed to do. (It's much more clear than BH&W on that topic, but still treats sex with reverence.) I haven't read the new _And They Were Not Ashamed_, so I can't tell you about that one.
