Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

Why do cats love the Temptations treats so much? What makes cat treats different from regular dry cat food?

A:

Dear Merry,

Okay, my cats must be even more bizarre than I thought, because neither of them like cat treats. They are, however, absolutely nuts about wet canned food and they really like the dry food we feed them as well. They're much more likely to eat a piece of dry food versus a Temptations treat.

The main reason most cats love Temptations treats (or any treat for that matter) is that they have a high fat and calorie content and, while being pretty nutritionally empty, taste really good to cats. It's like a doughnut versus a normal dinner for a human-- most people will go for the doughnut. The treat is essentially like dessert to the cat. If regular dry food was made from treats, we would have some explosively huge cats rolling around.
