Dear Katya,

Would you be willing to make an epic list of all of the TV shows that have ever been recommended in the archives?

- Katya

Dearest Katya,

A few months ago, I was trying to find a new TV show to watch on Netflix, so I decided to go through the Board archives to look for TV show recommendations. And then I decided that what I really needed to do was to make a giant spreadsheet to list all of the TV shows ever recommended in the archives. (See how easily I made the leap from a simple search for information to spreadsheet-induced madness? This is why I am the way I am.)

Methodology: I went through the archives and searched for all questions in which the Board writers made TV show recommendations. This included questions that asked for general recommendations as well as questions that asked for TV show recommendations within a specific category, so long as that category was sufficiently broad to elicit a wide variety of responses. (So, questions like "What was your favorite Saturday morning cartoon?" or "What is a good clean TV show?" were included, but a question like "What is your favorite Star Trek series?" would be deemed too narrow.) Also note that some recommendations may have been made during early seasons of a show, and later seasons may not be as highly recommended.

When multiple writers in the same question recommended the same TV show, I counted it multiple times. (I also counted secondhand recommendations.) However, I did NOT deduplicate TV shows which were recommended by the same writer in different questions, because that honestly just seemed like too much work. (I.e., half of the recommendations for Doctor Who may be from Tally M.)

I decided to limit this response to TV shows which were recommended a minimum of 3 times. (This kept the recommendation count at a manageable 88 shows, instead of a more unwieldy 271 shows. It also eliminated some odd outliers.)

For reference, recommendations from the following questions are tabulated in this response: Board Question #5831Board Question #8520Board Question #31913Board Question #39408, Board Question #42802, Board Question #49966, Board Question #54888, Board Question #56202, Board Question #67408, Board Question #67262, Board Question #67390, Board Question #66553, Board Question #66819, Board Question #70119, Board Question #71889, Board Question #71897, Board Question #73404, Board Question #73484, Board Question #74764, and Board Question #75960.
