Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,
In the Eyring building of science (ESC I think) room number C460, there is a ghost like sound that emanates from somewhere in the ceiling spontaneously. What is this sound, where is it coming from, and how can it be stopped? (if it can be stopped).

A: Dear Ghost,
It's the plumbing. It can't be stopped unless all the plumbing were ripped out and replaced, but there's not even a guarantee that the new plumbing wouldn't moan.

A: Dear Ghost,
The larvae of the man-eating worms that live the in the underground tunnels (see archives) hatch and grow in certain rooms around the ESC and the MARB. C460 ESC is one of those rooms. Don't bother telling maintenance about it. They lost a work crew a few years ago when three workers went to check out the sound and only half of each of them came back. Now they just say it's the pipes, and that it can't be stopped without redoing the plumbing and ventilation systems.
