Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

I was actually just wondering if having animals (2 cats) a legitimate reason to be approved to live in non-BYU contracted housing? I am not sure if this is something you would know or not. Thanks!

-Someone desperately wanting to keep her cats

A:

Dear Cat Lady,

The only reason I could find that might be applicable states that "Under certain conditions, as determined by the Off-Campus Housing Office, the university housing requirement may be waived for other students who have a special circumstance or hardship." A representative from the Off-campus Housing department says that merely to want pets isn't a valid reason for a waiver, but if your cats are a type of comfort animal, that may qualify as a special situation.

Love,

Luciana
