Dear 100 Hour Board,
Over the past two weeks, I've been working out an hour a day in the hopes of getting more healthy. I've gained eight pounds over a period of two weeks and don't feel like it's muscle, even though I've been eating at a deficit. Before I was underweight, but now I'm gaining so rapidly that it scares me. I feel really bloated and hungry all the time. I almost feel less healthy than when I was working out just because the weight gain's getting me down.
What's going on? Is it fat, water weight, or what? What am I doing wrong?

Chances are slim (ha!) that you put on eight pounds of fat (or muscle) in two weeks. I seriously doubt you consume an excess of 1000 calories a day, which is what you would need to do to gain 4 pounds a week. That would require a lot of effort (unless, you know, you are drinking over half a gallon of coke a day in addition to the meals and snacks you need to sustain yourself). What you have gained is almost certainly water weight.
It's normal to be a lot hungrier when you exercise an hour a day, particularly if it's high intensity or resistance training. And it's normal to feel bloated sometimes. Try not to worry about it too much - just do good health behaviors and your physiology will take care of the rest.
