Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

What are your summer goals or summer projects (outside of classes and work, although I know those can be time consuming)?

-My Name Here

A:

Dear person,

I want to do two hours of scheduled writing time a day, six days a week and really get a start on my thesis and other projects. I have been told by many people that this will drastically increase my productivity and decrease misery. I desperately need to learn to adhere to a schedule.

Dear Somebody,

I'm writing something. I'm not sure if I necessarily have a goal to finish it before summer, but I want to work on it. I'm also trying to be an extra in a film production, but I'm still waiting to hear back on whether I'm in or not.

Dear My Nym Here,

Right now I'm trying to survive the final throes of wedding planning.

After that...I honestly just want to have a really fun summer. So far it's been dreadfully responsible, with moving and painting my apartment and looking for/getting a job and planning a wedding and so on and so forth. And all those things are great. But they're not very fun, and on the inside, where I'm apparently not an adult yet, I just really want to have a fun summer and go on hikes and to festivals and concerts and cool vacations with my free time, instead of all this boring organize-y stuff I've been doing lately.

Dear friend,

Well, it's work related, but I'm going to tell you anyways because it's also my passion project. After my res life job ended in April, I decided to do freelance writing full-time. Which was quite stressful during May because I've never used my freelance money as a source of income before, but so far, it's actually going pretty well. I've got a good client base and have been able to pay rent, tuition, and my medical bills off of it. This is something I've been working up to for, like, five years. I only started getting paid at all about a year ago. But it's good, flexible work and I'm enjoying it.

Right now I'm especially excited because I recently got contracted to do work for wikiHow, which is cool because I didn't even know they hired people to work for their website. It's actually kind of similar to what I do here at The Board, though: giving people advice and helping them work through things. Fun stuff. Next step is to try getting fiction work published and start building up that. One step at a time. But I'm actually pretty happy about how things are going.

Other goal is to beat this social anxiety thing or at least get it to stop interfering with my life. It's... a work in progress. Eheh. Oh...

Dear Shmurna,

Good question... I, uh, wish I had a good answer. Presumably I'll be doing stuff once Spring term is over. Unfortunately, I don't really have any ideas what that stuff will consist of.

Dear Jess,

Hopefully once spring term ends, I'll be able to work on my EdX classes. I maybe would fail anatomy or coding at BYU, and there's that whole idea of graduating in some semblance of a timely manner, so I'm stoked to do them online.

Also, it'd be nice to go on a hike and not feel awful, but that might be too much for one summer.

Take care,

Dear Nym,

I think my only summer goal that isn't related to school or work is to actually get a decent amount of natural vitamin D. It's going pretty well so far, but I can only be outside in the sun if I finish my research stuff pretty early in the afternoon. I'm also planning on hiking up Mt. Timpanogos again next month.

As far as school and work go, I really need to finish collecting data for my thesis by the end of August, and I need to find a job for when I graduate.
