Q:

Dear 100 Hour Friends,

I have noticed that BYU has their flag at half mast very frequently. Why is that? Or if you could point me towards a list or calendar with reasons why it is at half mast, that could work, too.

B. Wayne

A:

Dear Bwayne,

Wouldn't you know it, I asked this exact question two years ago. Inverse's answer there was just that usually finding out why the flag is at half mast is only a Google away. Then someone added a correction pointing toward Board Question #32673, which indicated that, at least in 2007 (holy cow that was ten years ago), someone would put a flyer up in the ASB foyer explaining why the flag was at half mast on any particular day. I have no idea if they still do that, but it might be worth a look.

Dear Batman,

I actually called BYU Info once to ask why it was at half staff on a particular day. In addition to giving me the reason why, they also told me that if it's been lowered for the death of a BYU student or employee, that information is usually on the front page of byu.edu. So, that's another place you can check for info.
