Dear 100 Hour Board,
Can one say they are truly cultured if they are ignorant of meme culture?
-Don't talk to me or my son ever again
Nope. All those people who've read Wilde, Shakespeare, Hugo, and Milton, have attended operas and symphonies (and can instantly recognize the composers for each one they attend), are versed in the different styles of Picasso, Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Michelangelo, and da Vinci, are fluent in Latin and Greek, are steeped in the knowledge of Egyptian, Norse, Asian, and Greek mythology, can discuss off the nuances of the philosophies of Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, Spinoza, Leibniz, and Kant, are familiar with the works of Aquinas, Augustine, and Anselm, and know enough about historical artifacts to be a curator for a national museum cannot actually be counted as cultured if they don't also study memes. After all, what is the wit of Voltaire when compared to a couple lines paired with a picture concocted late at night by some random person with internet access seeking social validation by strangers?
