Dear 100 Hour Board,
I'd like to plant a tree. The problem is, I don't know anything about trees and which ones are able to survive where. Can you help? More specifically, I want to plant this tree at Willow Heights (located up Big Cottonwood Canyon Rd, Salt Lake City, UT 84121). Ideally, I want the tree to last a long time because I'm hoping for it to be a memory of someone dear to me. Any tips (e.g., what kind of tree to purchase, what size of tree, how to plant it, when to plant it, how much it needs to be cared for, etc.) on how to do this effectively? If there are multiple trees that I could plant, it would be great to see which ones so I have some kind of selection.

There are lots of different trees that can grow in Utah. Because of that, you may want to consider more things that you want in your tree besides just 'long lasting'. Do you want fruit trees, shade trees, or something else?
To help you in your decision making, I found this site which lists trees that grow in Utah, including information of how to care for them. I'd also recommend asking the people at the tree nursery when you actually buy the tree for tips on how to care for it and additional resources.
