Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

I think I have feelings for this guy but am the worst at dating. Whenever I'm around him, I always say really idiotic things and feel like I come off as boring or stupid. What can I do to get to know him better without getting anxious and clamming up when around him?

A:

Dear Probably Not,

Personally one thing that helps me in avoid awkward interactions is by avoiding putting myself in awkward situations. For example, choosing an activity where low levels of conversation are required such as playing board games, or going swing dancing, or doing service. That way you won't feel any pressure to have to keep the conversation going. You might also consider group dates or just doing things with a group of friends so that there's less pressure and you can be more natural.

Your anxiousness might not go away completely, but by putting yourself in situations where there's low pressure you can certainly take some of that pressure and anxiety off. Also, don't worry too much about it; if he's the right guy for you he might even find you saying silly things to be cute or endearing.

Good luck! You got this!

Peace,

Tipperary

Dear 2nd worst,

The only thing that I have found effective in these situations is to convince myself I don't like him until I don't care even if he asks me out. But then I don't care whether or not he asks me out...actually, I think I'll take that worst dater at BYU award, if you don't mind.
