Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

I am graduating in April but I want to stay in BYU off-campus housing. If I am a BYU student at the time I sign the contract, will I be okay for Spring/Summer? Or will I have to go to Institute? How strict are they in upholding the Institute attendance rule for non-students?

A:

Dear Maggie,

I think it depends on your landlord. I live in BYU off-campus housing and have had roommates who went to UVU and never attended institute. It was never a problem for them; our landlady didn't seem to care. I would probably ask around your apartment complex and see what others' experiences are. You could always ask your landlord as well, but that might inadvertently guilt them into upholding the BYU housing code.

To live in off-campus housing you don’t have to be a BYU student but you do have to live in one of 13 different approved institutions, including UVU or LDS institute. Here is the official link: http://och.byu.edu/faq.html. Also basically no land lords care so there is that.
