Q:

Dear Dragon Lady,

Have you kept your Harry Potter knowledge up to date, or has it faded since the heyday of Pottermania?

Dear Winky ~

My Harry Potter trivia has definitely faded. I no longer can tell you who wore what color of robes to the Yule Ball, or most of the characters' eyes. I probably couldn't list all of the characters (especially Death Eaters) without referencing the books.

But I can still tell you there are 142 staircases at Hogwarts, so that's something. I have been making a Harry Potter quilt (or 3) the last few years (very slowly) so there is random trivia that is new to me. (I wanna make my quilt as canon as possible!) Cornish Pixies have silver wings, for example.

I think my knowledge of the storyline and details is still fairly accurate. Probably not as good as it was when I was reading them all the time. The Stormlight Archives and Sanderson's Cosmere in general, is taking up a lot of the "not essential, but really fun literary trivia" space in my brain right now. I do still have conversations about how certain things can fit into Hogwarts canon, when it seems to be a plot hole. (Most recent example: people apparating into Hogwarts in the 2nd Fantastic Beasts trailer. And no, I don't have a good answer. Before I try too hard to come up with one, I'm waiting to see if they address it in the movie.)

My love of Harry Potter is still strong. One of our most favorite and most played games this year has been  Harry Potter: Hogwarts Battle. That has been a fun time to have random HP knowledge creep up. It's fun to have an opinion on if they put the right allies, items, or spells in the right year, and if not, theorize why they put them where they did, and if it's justifiable.

In fact, I was in the middle of playing a game of it when this question came up. We were playing Box 4 in the Monster Book of Monsters expansion (which is sooooooo hard!). We lost. Miserably. It took 2 hours to be thoroughly trounced by the game. In particular, Voldemort, the Werewolf, and the Third Task. (Quirrell was really annoying in there, too, but mostly because he was in combination with the other 3 at the end of the game.)

I checked, and when Yellow and I play, we’ve lost 62% of the time. (I credit the expansion for that high of a number. It's sooooo hard.) But we still love it.

Dear Winky,

I, on the other hand, am still as brilliant at Harry Potter knowledge as ever. In fact, I've become quite famous with the first Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie. Everyone thinks I'm adorable and cuddly, which is fine by me, because then I get more access to their shiny things.
