Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

Do you think God has a personality? Like does he have a personality that you could define in human terms like introverted or extroverted? Is he bold or shy? Is he jovial or somber? Is he more of a joker or more stern and serious? Like if he disguised as a mere mortal would some people naturally click more with him than others? Do you think he just changes based on who he’s interacting with. I’m just thinking what’s he like with his homies (jesus, mother in heaven, mary, Abraham, Joseph, Adam and Eve) up on cloud 9? I’m sure some of you might think well it’s just beyond comprehension since we’re mortal but I’m inclined to think that we’ll essentially have just the perfected version of our personality there so by extension I think God has some kind of natural personality. Any thoughts?

Dear Sigmund,

Oh definitely. I think God's personality is such that He (and She) can click well with everyone. I think anyone who is loving and friendly and funny can get along with anyone, especially if you love them enough, which is exactly how God feels about all of us. And I think God shows different sides to different people at different times. For instance, when I'm being purposely dramatic about something, God shoots a dry, one-liner my way. A few years back I was watching our mission Facebook page which kept telling us about all the RMs from our mission who were getting married. Such a great tool for comparison and depression! Well, I was feeling particularly bitter about it one day and told God, "I'm never getting married, I have no hope." God's reply? "Look at you, a self-confirmed spinster at 21."

When I shared this with a friend, she told me, laughing, about how, after re-reading her patriarchal blessing one day, she was struck by the promise in there that she'd have a long life. "I should do something crazy like sky diving," she thought, "because God's promised to protect me!" Instantly, the thought came, "[Name], that promise doesn't apply to you just being stupid."

God's the best.

Dear Freud,

I do think God has a personality. I also agree that each of us will have perfected forms of our current personalities.

I don't think God would click better with some people over others, but I do think which attributes people click more would definitely have a lot of variation.

As far as assigning a more exact description to God's personality goes, I don't really know. That sounds like a really cool personal project to try and answer though! Maybe after some time I'll have a better idea.

Dear you,

I think God has a personality and that he has a sense of humor. For example, when I was about 17 years old, I decided to wash my car. I checked the weather to make sure it wasn't going to rain and the forecast looked clear. I spent a couple hours getting my car to shine when it started sprinkling rain. Fortunately for me, it only sprinkled for a few minutes so after it was done I ran out and dried my car with towels before the rain drops could dry by themselves and leave residue. As soon as I finished drying the car, it started to rain again and I gave up...

So yeah, God has a sense of humor!
