Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

When do you think that balance will be restored to the universe, or in other words, when will Firefox and Chrome have the same version number? Not the exact version number, since Chrome has really long ones, but the main number. Will I be alive to see this blessed day?

- 65 ≠ 72

A:

Dear Inequality,

That's a tricky question. I feel like it's unlikely. Do we really think that Firefox will catch up to Chrome? I doubt it. However, it really just has to do with numbering system. Both Firefox and Chrome use version numbers with decimals so instead of going up a version for a small patch they can just go up a decimal place. If Firefox goes up a whole number every update and Chrome only changes from say 72.0.3626.109 to 72.0.3626.110, then they'll probably cross paths pretty quickly. Although if that's the case, I can't imagine the universe staying balanced for long. Don't worry though, when we get to Chrome Version 1000 we'll all just be part of the singularity and reality can be whatever you want.

Peace,

Tipperary
