Dear 100 Hour Board,

I've been shopping for my mission and I'm looking for a good place to buy sister missionary pants. Because pants for sister missionaries are a new concept there aren't the best guidelines or suggestions, and places like Sister Missionary Mall don't stock pants. I want fashionable professional pants that don't look frumpy.

Dear Sister Ellen,

First off I just want to say how happy I am that sisters can wear pants now!! While I didn't have to buy nice professional pants for my mission I've had to buy a number of them since. You really can't go wrong with Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, Christopher & Banks, Dressbarn, J. Crew, Loft, and New York & Company. (I imagine the only difference between normal professional pants and sister missionary professional pants are that they're a bit less tight, but I'm certain you could find that style at these stores.) I'd suggest going to an outlet mall (or just a really big mall) and trying on professional pants and seeing which style you prefer. I recently did this and ended up buying two amazing professional pants at J. Crew for less than $10 each (I may be a bit obsessed with sales). You can also check out your local thrift store, be it the DI or Goodwill. I've gotten some amazing professional clothes - some basically brand new - from thrift stores for fantastic prices. But honestly it's worth it to spend more money on good professional pants because you'll be using them both on and after your mission.

There's some good advice on choosing professional pants for sisters here.

A friend who served in Central America had a few pairs of slacks custom made for quite cheap while she was a missionary. Depending on where you serve (I at least can vouch for most of Latin America being a reliably cheap option), it may be good to look into this.
