Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

Recommendations for where to get affordable, customizable bridesmaids dresses? I'm wanting somewhere I can say "pick x, y, or z in [color name]" so we'll all match, but they have some options so that they don't all have to wear the same thing.

Thanks,

[color name]

Dear Colores,

I've been a bridesmaid before for people who had a specific color and had us pick dresses from David's Bridal. David's Bridal makes this really easy because they have tons of colors on their website, you pick which ones you like, and then you can see all the dresses in that exact shade, but with different styles. Because you can pick a color straight from their website, this avoids the problem I had with my bridesmaids of telling them to just find any nice dress in a "peach" shade, where some of their dresses ended up being exactly what I imagined, some of them ended up being bright orange, and some of them ended up being pink. David's has a ton of options, and I believe they're also customizable. I think most bridesmaid dresses from David's Bridal run between $100-$200, so not super cheap, but I thought I'd throw it out there as an option because I don't know what your budget is.

Dear colorful,

I just went to different stores and had my girls look at dresses within a color scheme. That way they could pick a dress that they liked on them without being forced to match (even though in the end they picked the same dress, haha)

If you really want it to be affordable, going somewhere like Mikarose in the University Mall is a good idea because they have a certain style and look. They have a color scheme that they put out each season, and then have lots of cute dresses in that range of colors. That's not quite "customizable" per se but it does meet your other criteria. Called To Surf is also a good place to look... and I imagine that many other boutique stores will be sensible options for you (Pink Desert, Roolee, etc.) We ended up buying our dresses from Alysse's Bridal at the Riverwoods for about $50. To me, that was a good price for nice dresses that all matched for a special occasion.

Cheers,

You could get swatches of fabric from a local fabric store and give one to each bridesmaid. This method is great so your bridesmaids can shop wherever they are comfortable and they have the exact color to look for.
