Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

I know there are cottage industry laws about selling food...for instance I think in UT you can sell food you make at home in UT, but you can't sell it across state lines. If I'm trying to start a business, and I want to sell the jam that all of my sisters make at home, but they live in 5 different states, what laws would govern that? Could I just get a business license in my own state and sell their jam?

A:

Dear Jam,

Not a lawyer here, but I'm pretty sure that the individual state laws would apply in each state separately. Hope this helps! Any readers have more info please help us out.
