Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

Will Trump win again this year? What are your predictions as to what will happen with the election?

-Please no more Trump

A:

Dear You,

I gave up on all election speculation on the evening of Tuesday, November 8th, 2016. I sat down on my bed to work on some physics homework; before I started, I pulled up the New York Times live election tracker, taking comfort in the fact that the needle on their animated dial was predicting that the election was leaning heavily in Clinton's favor.

I did some homework, then took a break that went longer than I'd anticipated. Before returning to my homework, I figured I'd check the election tracker again. The dial had swung in the complete opposite direction, indicating that a Trump victory was all but assured. It was jarring. It was actually quite a lot more than jarring, but I can't quite describe the feeling.

Since then, I've been in something of a survival mode when it comes to the possibility of Trump being removed from office. I don't let myself get hopeful. I don't allow myself to think that maybe, just maybe, this latest scandal or damning piece of evidence could lead to his expulsion (and, hey, whaddya know, so far none of it has). I also don't read about other people's thoughts and opinions concerning the election and Biden's chances of unseating Trump (outside of the occasional Facebook post from yayfulness analyzing recent polls). For the moment, I just can't let my brain explore those possibilities. Normally I try to hope for the best while preparing for the worst; when it comes to this matter, though, it's all of the latter without any of the former.

I will breathe the biggest sigh of relief when Donald J. Trump is no longer our president; I just can't let myself get my hopes up about that eventuality until it finally happens.
