Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

What music genre best matches each season of the year, or vice versa? I was looking up self-described "autumn music" on YouTube and it was mostly indie/folk, so I wanted get your professional opinion.

Dear El,

Well, I just made a fall playlist. It features Childish Gambino, Rex Orange County, Billie Eilish, mxmtoon, Oh Wonder, Russ, Finneas, Frank Ocean, Cavetown, girl in red, Lauv, Hozier, Conan Gray, Young the Giant, Lana Del Rey, Lorde, Ariana Grande, Picture Atlantic, and Glass Animals. So, I guess, alt / alt pop / alt hip hop, for the most part? Mostly just songs that are a little more chill and/or have sad vibes, haha :)

Summer has always felt very much like bright, fun pop for me, maybe mixed with some hip hop. Winter (aside from Christmas music and hymns) seems like it deserves music that's a little more energetic. I always listen to more rap and hip hop in the Winter months. My sister says that she thinks alt rock goes well with the season. She also mentioned Gus Dapperton, the Strokes, and Boy Pablo. Spring seems like the time for something cheerful and upbeat, but not too loud. I'm thinking mxmtoon would fit well in a Spring playlist, plus maybe some indie rock, or even some 2000s pop, if you're into that ("Put Your Records On" and "Drops of Jupiter" are both coming to mind).

Now I want to go make a playlist for each season.

Best,

Josefina
