Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

Where is the purest form of Spanish spoken? My friend back home from Spain, claims it is Spain. My father, fluent in Spanish from his mission says otherwise. Any linguistic experts know the global consensus?

- Victor Drazen

A: Estimado Sr. Drazen,
The Spanish spoken in Spain is indeed the most "pure" form spoken in the world. Most other Spanish-speaking parts of the world, such as Latin America, use a slightly different form of the language. More people speak the form of Spanish spoken in Latin America (many times called castellano) and I personally prefer it. But as far as purity goes, you can't beat the variant found in the country Spanish came from.
