Enter the terms to search for below. All terms must match, by default. In addition, you can use the following modifiers, which must be capitalized:

AND

Both (all) terms or expressions must match.

Example: cookie AND recipe would return everything containing both cookie and recipe.

This is the default between adjacent terms.

OR

One of the terms or expressions must match.

Example: cookie OR recipe would return everything containing either cookie or recipe.

NOT

Only the first and not the second term or expression must match.

Example: cookie NOT recipe would return everything talking about cookies but not about recipes.

( ) (Parentheses)

You can use parentheses to group words together into expressions.

Example: (cookie OR brownie) recipe would return everything talking about either cookies or brownies, along with recipes.

" " (Quotation marks)

Quotation marks search for an exact phrase.

Example: "cookie recipe" would return only content that used those two words in exactly that phrase.

Putting it all together, here's an example of a query you could make:

("cookie recipe" OR "brownie recipe") NOT burned

This would return everything with either the exact phrase "cookie recipe" or "brownie recipe" but without the word burned.

Here are a couple more search modifiers that are a little more complex:

NEAR

The words must be within 10 words of each other in the document to match.

Example: cookie NEAR recipe would return only only results where the two words were no more than 10 words away from each other.

You can adjust the distance by adding a forward slash followed by a a number, as in cookie NEAR/5 recipe.

ADJ

The words must be within 10 words of each other, and also must appear in the same order as your search.

Example: cookie ADJ recipe would only give you results where cookie came first and recipe followed by no more than 10 words.

Like NEAR, you can change the distance between words by adding a forward slash and a number.
