Whenever he thought about it, he felt terrible. And so, at last, he came to a fateful decision. He decided not to think about it. ~John-Roger and Peter McWilliams

Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

What kind of wage does a beginning professor make?

A: Dear Anonymous,

I imagine you meant here at BYU. You must know they are not exactly excited at the idea of releasing that type of information. I did however find a state by state breakdown of starting wages for assistant professors available here.

The site noted the following about Utah:
Public Institutions:
5

Educational Climate:
Regular high enrollment in this mostly white and LDS-dominated state, expected to build community college system.

Average Wage:
Public 4 Year - $43,000
Private 4 Year - $44,000
All 2 Year - $38,000

National Average Wage:
Public 4 Year - $53,000
Private 4 Year - $46,000
All 2 Year - $36,000

This was current as of March 2004, so I imagine it's changed a little bit, but that should give you a rough idea.

Good luck!
