Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

I just bought an 11 inch laptop to take to campus because while I love the 17 inch laptop I already have (for movies and whatnot), it is, of course, something of a pain to transport.

My questions is, let's say I'm at home and I have the option of using either computer. I'm just doing some basic tasks akin to typing or web browsing. Ergonomically/psychologically speaking, etc., does one laptop have advantages over the other? Will I enjoy one better?

A:

Dear Typing,

Bigger screen size is almost always better if we're avoiding the mobility issues. Bigger screens are often easier on the eyes, easier to read and see, better for movies, and more comfortable for normal tasks. Recently the trend of very high resolution screens help make small screens still very effective, but I've found that big screens are more comfortable for me. It's not that your 11-inch won't be usable, it's just that you might enjoy using a bigger screen when you're sitting at home and don't have to worry about mobility.
