Whenever he thought about it, he felt terrible. And so, at last, he came to a fateful decision. He decided not to think about it. ~John-Roger and Peter McWilliams
Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

Which YouTube channels do you subscribe to? Any that are your absolute favorites?

-DoReMi

A:

Dear Solfedge,

I don't actually subscribe to any channels, but I'm a huge fan of the videos made by Sam Tsui and Kurt Hugo Schneider. They do a lot of covers of popular songs and also some original stuff too. Check 'em out.

Also I enjoy AGDQ, which is a charity event where people do speed runs of various video games. Again, I don't actually subscribe to a channel for it, but it's fun to watch someone glitch their way through Pokemon Blue to catch all 151 Pokemon in only 2 hours.

Dear FaSoLa,

My subscriptions:

  • Rhett and Link (and all of their affiliated channels)
  • SweetAmbsCookies.  I'm literally addicted to watching cookie and candy-making videos, and she is crazy talented.
  • Crash Course.  I used so many of their videos with my history students this semester.
  • Last Week Tonight
  • The Late Show with Stephen Colbert
  • How It Should Have Ended
  • CGP Grey

Dear DoReMi,

I really like watching Peanut Butter Gamer's videos (on both of his channels), most for the hilarity of his reactions to different in-game situations. I think my absolute favorite of his is the "Skyward Sword Hacked" series.

I recently subscribed to JP Awaken, whose "How to be Gluten Intolerant" video is genius.

My two favorite music channels are dj-Jo, who does dubstep remixes of video game themes, and MusicMike512, who does incredible piano covers of movie and video game soundtracks.

Dear DoReMi,

I currently am subscribed to 85 channels, so I won't list them all, but my favorites are The Frey life, Historic Royal Palaces, California Gardening, BBC earth, Kongehuset, Kungahuset, Det Danske Kongehus, Rick Steves Europe, Crash Course, CGP Grey, Good Mythical Morning, Vet Ranch and SuperCarlin Brothers.

Dear DoReMi,

These are great! I'll add a few.

Julian Smith does some really funny sketches.

Studio C is great, though I usually see everything on BYUtv before it hits YouTube.

Ministry of Magic is an awesome band that had a great YouTube presence a few years back. They do music about Harry Potter, and it's fantastic. Their music videos are spread across different channels of members of the band, who are all pretty funny.

Kurzgesagt does some well-made informative videos about sciency topics. Those are fun.

Oh, and Element Animation does some great Minecraft-themed animations if you're into that.
