Whenever he thought about it, he felt terrible. And so, at last, he came to a fateful decision. He decided not to think about it. ~John-Roger and Peter McWilliams

Dear 100 Hour Board,

Why would someone rip open a bag of chips or cereal down the side or middle, so as to prevent any possible chance of thereafter closing it properly, instead of taking two extra seconds to cut or carefully pull it open across the top seam?

I just don't understand. Please help me have charity.

Dear friend,

Well, it makes less noise. Also, maybe they really just want to finish an entire bag of chips. Also, Tipperary's probably right.

Dear GRRR,

My theory is that 90% of the time you ask the question "what was this person thinking?" the answer that they weren't thinking. They were hungry and they opened the bag. I don't know if it's reassuring but a lot of people don't think through every action they take. So, that's my guess.

Dear Angry,

Sometimes bags rip weirdly even when you’re trying to open them normally.
