Whenever he thought about it, he felt terrible. And so, at last, he came to a fateful decision. He decided not to think about it. ~John-Roger and Peter McWilliams

Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,

So I was walking to work in downtown Provo, and saw this Birds Aren't Real flier on a light post, laughed out loud, and immediately thought of Ardilla Feroz! Does this happen to you? What things/events have reminded you of readers or writers?

A:

Dear Inquiring Mindful,

When I come across things, I usually send them to other writers, and I think Ardilla is the easiest to be reminded of. In the past few months, I've sent him this, this, and this. There's also this video that reminded me of Guesthouse that she's likely already seen, and then often if I am reminded of something by what another writer writes as one of their questions, I'll put it as a tag on their question before it's posted or just message them.

Dear Aziraphale,

Whenever I read "Guesthouse" by Rumi, I think of Guesthouse for obvious reasons. And I automatically associate Goldie with everything family history. Outside of that, it's been a while since random things have reminded me of other writers. But I also rarely leave my apartment for anything ever anymore, so it's really unsurprising that I'm not being exposed to much stimuli to remind me of writers.

Dear Inquiring Reader,

One of my favorite moments when I first became a writer was the battle of cake vs. pie. Whenever I see or talk about pie/cake, I think about how we were going to get together and have a pie and cake board party. But that hasn't happened yet...

Then whenever I think, see, or have potatoes, I think of our potato party and everyone that is there. Mostly Tipperary since he was the one who invited me (and our tater friends that we made along the way).

Then of course, whenever Coldplay or cinnamon rolls get mentioned I automatically think of Guesthouse. I mean. Obvs.

Dear Friend,

Whenever I hear about Neil Gaiman I think of Anathema, so you can imagine that when I was watching Good Omens I was mostly just thinking about the Board.

I also think of Ardilla Feroz any time I see those videos of the guys that make fancy modern-looking pools by digging out pits in the ground. You know the ones. And, any time I see the black sesame ice cream at Trader Joe's.

I think about Tipperary every time I buy potatoes, and frequently when I think about marriage and family counseling because his wife does that and she's amazing.

I think about 9S when I talk to my friend about high school because his dad was our AP US History teacher, and 9S has YET to acknowledge this despite me incessantly bringing it up (haha).

I have an aunt that sells courses (for cheap!) teaching people how to do family history, so of course, I think of Goldie Rose.

Whenever I read a clever poem or pull out my Shel Silverstein books I am reminded of Inklings.

Pebble took a math-ed class from a former Board writer, so I think about her a lot too.

Lots of times when I see cute dogs I think about Alta and her cute dog.

I also think about Luciana every time a TikTok of a Disney employee pops up in my Instagram Reels feed.

As I re-watched The X-Files over the summer with Pebble I definitely thought of Cerulean in the super-creepy Pusher episodes.

I think about the Board and my writer friends a lot, basically.

Cheers,

Guesthouse
