Q:

Dear 100 Hour Board,
Why does the University let in so many freshmen whose high schools didn't teach them to write?
- Munky Nubbler

A: Dear Munky N,

Because practically no one's high school teaches students how to write. In fact, I think it's a stretch to claim that the University requires people to know how to write before graduating. I've edited things for Ph.D.s who couldn't write a solid thesis or a technically correct (or even an ear-pleasing) sentence to save their lives. In addition, I've edited for English teachers and English majors who couldn't write, either. (My most recent run-in includes being told that I needed to fix my writing because it was weak and "rhudamentary.")

Deep sigh.
